ATEX products

ATEX refers to environments and areas where there is a risk of explosion or fire. This is the case, for example, in the printing and graphics industry, pharmaceutical industry, coating and laminating processes and in the automotive industry. In these areas there can be a risk of explosion or fire due to flammable substances that are used. We offer solutions for problems caused by electrostatics.

Application areas of ATEX

Hazardous areas occur in various industries for which we manufacture ATEX-certified products. We ensure an optimised production process in ATEX environments. Some of the possible applications per industry are listed below:

Printing and graphic arts industry

  • Flexo printing and rotogravure
    Flexo printing is designated as a hazardous area because solvents are used and static charge on the material can ignite the gas and cause a fire or explosion. Electrostatic neutralisation, before the material touches the central drum or immediately after the material leaves the drum, is performed with an ATEX-approved discharge device, the Performax IQ Easy EX. The electrostatic charge can also be measured in ATEX areas with our Sensor IQ Easy Ex, so it is always clear if there is a dangerous electrostatic charge and how high the charge is. The IQ devices can be connected to our Manager IQ for perfect electrostatic control. The risk becomes controllable because Performax IQ Easy Ex bars monitor the contamination and measure the residual charge.
  • Coating and laminating
    Electrostatic surface charges are common in most coating and laminating operations involving insulating (non-conductive) materials. The static charges cause a variety of production problems, such as attracting airborne contaminants to the material surface. The most dangerous situation occurs when a spark from a static discharge occurs in the coating & laminating area, which is saturated with volatile vapours, and ignites a fire or explosion. In these environments, ATEX-approved static elimination equipment is required to prevent fires like our Performax IQ Easy Ex. Again, our Sensor IQ Easy Ex can be used to measure in-line whether there is an electrostatic charge on the material. Our Sensor IQ Easy Ex ensures optimal quality control.

Automotive industry

  • Paint booths
    Sometimes a flammable or explosive atmosphere is only present during a specific process, such as spraying solvent-based paints or transferring liquids into a reactor vessel. In such processes, our P-Sh-N-Ex bar with Typhoon is used.

Typhoon with P-SH-N-EX

The Typhoon is constructed of extruded aluminium with incorporated mounting grooves. This design provides a precise air volume over the entire width of the Typhoon. In the Typhoon, a high air pressure is generated and flows out of the narrow outflow opening. Anti-static solution for ATEX environments.

This anti-static bar has been approved for use in certain hazardous environments (ATEX). The 5 metre long primary cable is connected to the main voltage. A neon light indicates whether high voltage is present.

HP-N-EX

The HP-N-EX ionising air blower consists of a motor and a fan. The ambient air is drawn from one side and blown off along an anti-static bar. The effective ionising width is 500 mm. This ionisation blower has been approved for use in certain explosion-hazardous environments (ATEX zones).
